Join our team as a Backend AI Developer (Hybrid –  Leça da Palmeira)!

What You’ll Do:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Quarkus.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as GitLab Duo and Claude Code as part of your daily engineering workflow.
• Develop new features, fix bugs, perform refactoring, and build integrations while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Write automated unit and integration tests, leveraging AI to accelerate test creation and improve test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews, both AI-assisted and with teammates, ensuring code quality and adherence to engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve CI/CD pipeline issues, using AI tools to support root-cause analysis.
• Design and build Java-based APIs and microservices that are reliable and scalable in production.
• Understand the functional and business context of requirements before designing technical solutions.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers, QA, and Product teams to deliver reliable, well-tested software.
• Experiment with and responsibly integrate new AI development tools and practices into day-to-day engineering workflows

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in backend development.
• Strong experience with Java; knowledge of Quarkus is a plus.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, GitLab Duo, Claude Code, or similar.
• Experience designing and building APIs and Java-based microservices that run reliably at scale in production.
• Strong experience writing automated unit and integration tests for backend systems.
• Ability to understand business and functional requirements before defining technical solutions.
• Curiosity and willingness to experiment with new AI tools and integrate them responsibly into development practices.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where AI-assisted development practices are continuously evolving.
• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Collaborative, adaptable, autonomous, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
